A new message has been posted on social media by the Bishop of Washington, who has criticized Donald Trump for his rhetoric against those who are members of the LGBTQ community and immigration.

Following his election as president, Donald Trump wasted no time in issuing new executive orders. Perhaps the most controversial of these orders is a policy that asserts that there are “only two genders.” Additionally, he issued a number of orders that prevent migrants from entering the nation and from remaining there until they are allowed to leave.

Following the implementation of this action, the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde made the decision to bring this matter to light during a service that took place on January 21 at the Washington National Cathedral, where President Trump was present.

Consequently, this led to a strong backlash on social media from a few persons, while others defended the bishop and insisted that she had not been unreasonable in her call for’mercy’.

She made her first “plea” to the President, saying, “Mr. President, millions of people have placed their trust in you.” Additionally, as you shared with the nation the day before, you have experienced the providential hand of a God who is kind.

I pray that you will have mercy on the people in our nation who are experiencing fear at this time. I say this in the name of our God. The Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and the Independent Party all have households that have gay, lesbian, and transgender children, some of whom are afraid for their lives.

“And the people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants… they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals.”

In the aftermath of the service, Trump described it as “not too exciting” and stated that he “didn’t think it was a good service.” He eventually came to the conclusion that “They could do much better.”

Later, in response to Trump’s comment, Bishop Mariann gave CNN the following statement: “I wanted to counter, as gently as I could, with a reminder of their humanity and their place in our wider community.”

And now, for the first time since November 2024, she has posted on Instagram, expressing her gratitude to all those who have protected her and urging people to be brave, kind, and supportive of one another.

Bishop Mariann made the following statement in the video that was distributed yesterday (February 25): “Greetings, friends, it is Bishop Mariann here. I took a break from social media for a while, but I wanted to come back and express my gratitude to those who have supported me.

It is impossible for me to adequately convey how much it means to me to get the letters, phone calls, notes, presents, and statements of thanks, support, and encouragement that I have received.

There is a spirit of love and goodness in this land that flows through all of us, and now is the time for us to stand together, to take strength from one another, and to learn together how we are to be brave now and to hold on to the things that are good about us and about our country.

I am convinced that this spirit is present in this land.

“This is something that we are able to accomplish, particularly if we keep in mind that we are never alone and that even if one of us falters, there are hundreds of others who are also standing strong.”

This is the sort of society and community that we all deserve and that we wish to pass on to those who come after us.

Sometimes, we stand up for the sake of those who are unable to do so, and we believe that together, God will work through us to bring about the kind of society and community that these people deserve.

“Take good care, have courage and remember together we can all be brave.”
